Aren't they beautiful!

My sister and I canned pears and peaches today. This was only the second time I have done canning, and the first time without my mom's help. She wasn't with us in person anyway- we did have her detailed instructions. And Colleen, my mother in law, gave us a few pointers.

It was a good day's work. We started just before noon and I took the last batch off the stove at 8:00. It's satisfying to see the finished product and reap the rewards. Feels good.

Nattalie and I deem ourselves "real" women now that we have successfully canned *on our own*.

You got quite a bit done in one day. I canned apples a while back and didn't feel like I was able to do much in one day. Did you have any bottles break on you?

Look at you! You even did pears. Here I thought I was doing good by doing a few batches of peaches... Way to go!

Beautiful job, Abby! It is so gratifying to see the finished product at the end of the day. (I was going to say "the fruits of your labors" but that sounded a bit cheesy.) I used to let the bottles sit on the counter for a couple days before I put them in the storeroom just so I could enjoy looking at them for a while.

Don't you love that simnce of accoplishment when you achieve something on your best wife/homemaker/mom lists. That's how i felt this summer when I canned my own peaches and made jam. that look great.
