10 minutes is plenty of time for a 2 year old...

I left Hyrum upstairs while I put Audrey to sleep. He was playing with the straps and little buckles on my shoes. I was gone for about 10 minutes...and he was being very quiet. I was hoping he had kept himself occupied with the shoes, but that was just too good to be true.

When I came back upstairs, this is what I found:

I only took a picture of one tube, but he emptied TWO!

This is the second time he has done this! I didn't catch him as fast this time, which gave him ample time to smear it ALL OVER his body. First I tried to use his shirt to wipe off as much as possible, then I put him in the bath. He only had the patience to let me wash his hair twice...so it is still a little greasy.

Does anyone know how I should go about removing oil-based diaper ointment from my couch?

I was going to say that it was a good thing he only kept it on himself instead of getting it on everything else, then I read the last line.
We have something called oil eater. I think we got it at Costco. We use it to clean our floor and the inside of our van all the time and it works great. I don't know if we have tried it on couches yet though. That is my best suggestion. Good Luck!

There's just two spots on the couch from where his legs made contact. The mess was pretty self-contained, thankfully.
Thanks for the tip; I'll look into that.

Try washing it with an oil fighting detergent, like Dawn dish soap. First get as much oil out of the couch as you can, then mix the dawn with water and get it super sudsy. Use mostly the suds and very little water and scrub away with a very soft brush. Keep doing this until most of the stain washes out. This trick works really well when you get greasy marks on your clothes and carpet. I'm constantly having to do this!

I'm pretty sure Jessica (Adamson's) little girl did this exact same thing. You should ask her how she got it out of her couch...

We used the dawn trick for desitin (the white kind) on the carpet. It worked surprisingly well. Don't you love kids? hahaha they come up with the best ideas. I just can't believe this isn't the first time!

haha I'm sorry but I had to laugh at the pictures of him :) You can tell he had a lot of fun looking at that first picture. Don't you just love boys?

Oh my. He is such a treasure! Always full of surprises. I'm glad you got pictures of it so you can look back on it and laugh. : )

Here is what queen of homekeeping {Martha Stewart} says on the subject:

"Begin by treating the area with a dry solvent (such as mineral spirits or acetone). Using an eyedropper, rinse with isopropyl alcohol; dry well. Spray the diluted dishwashing-soap solution {1 tablespoon of fragrance and dye free liquid soap and 10 ounces of water, in a spray bottle} on any remaining residue, and soak the item in an enzyme detergent before laundering."

Oh my gosh!! Adde did this with vick vapo rub on our brand new couches!! We still see little hand prints all over. But what do you do? Now we just laugh about it - but I wasn't laughing too hard when it first happened.

My niece has put vaseline in her hair several times and it has taken a while to get it out. Let's just say her hair had quite a shine for a week or two.
